Here the water flows into the Jordan River, ending its course in the Dead Sea much further south. This site is according to some traditions, the actual site where Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist.
“Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptised by John” (Matthew)
Many Christian pilgrims come to this site and organise baptismal ceremonies. They usually come in groups to bathe in white clothes. The site is located at the southern exit of the Sea of Galilee, just behind the gate of the dam which is used on rainy winters to lower the level of the lake.
